Jolly Snowman on his way!

No, he is not here yet, but the way it feels with the wind it seems as though,

"I'ts beginning to feel like Christmas."

This is the second day of very strong winds and cold canadian air. I brought in my potted Purple Wandering Jew, my Sage and a Geranium. Hope they make it until Spring 2010. That seems strange and need to think to type it and I'm a good typist.

The wind blew over my tomato cages but did not harm the plants. If this cold keeps up, I'll pick my green tomatoes. With the amount on the vines, I could have fresh tomatoes until next summer.

If you have green tomatoes you wish to save, just pick them, wrap them in newspaper, place in a dark place (like a closet). They will riped and be just a good like them came right off the vine. I love my tomatoes. How about you? Come on along on my blog and give me your opinion of tomatoes.

Your comment will be sent to me on my E-mail address.Be sure you identify yourself in the subject box, otherwise, I won't open it.

Have a Great Day, Where Ever You Are!

You are looking at the upperhalf of a tree in my yard. As you can see it hangs over the gutter.

It is very, very old, probably around 40 years old. It came up volunteer, has been cut back drastically 5 different times and is still living. Yes, it has knot holes where branches were lobbed offed and is shedding it's bark, but after last night, I believe it is a very strong tree.

Last night in my area, we have a thunderstorm to beat other thunderstorm"s. It came up very unexpectdly. 2 or 3 lightning flashes followed by the thunder, then -----------with gusts of winds which roared past the house and rain like I have in my whole life never seen. I looked out my picture window. It was raining so hard that it was running like a stream down the storm window glass. The storm lasted only about 10 minutes. I don't usually get upset by storms, but I was very uneasy with this one. I was raised in Tornado Alley. Never have I been in one, but I have heard the roar and the noise of objects being thrown around. That is what I heard last night. I believe there were tornadic winds above our area. As for the tree. No damage, but lawn was covered with leafs blown from the branches. Time to thank God for sparing us from a worse storm.

For now, I need to brave the Canadian, cold air and take some fall pictures and get a few groceries.

At the end of this blog, there is a spot where you can pull up a blank page for your comments on the site. Would love to hear from you!

Feelin' Great

Hey, what a day! Sun is shining, humidity (all last week) is down and feelings of helplessness is gone. Now to start a new day.

Clicking on:

I just looked at about 100 pictures of our illustrious first lady's costumes. She is sure a looker. From the formal dresses she wears to her play clothes, I think Mrs. Obama is outstanding in the fasion world.

Never mind that she has taken a page out of Jackie'O's book. When you are thinking fashion for yourself, just go back in time a little for Jackie'O styles then progress to Michelle styles.

A similarity? Yes, but Michelle carries the statement of sheer elegance in the warm every day style portrays.

With the styles in the stores today, it should send women back to the sewing machine or to a resale shop where styles are more traditional.

I like Mrs. Obama's styles very much. Only one thing I would consider not chic. That is when she wears a style above her knobby knees. Hey, Michelle, just come down 2 or 3 inches so all your knee caps don't show. Sorry, but they are boney and ugly.

Just call me critical.

September 15, 2009--A Surprise

My Sympathy to Rosemary and family on the loss of your husband and father.

Good Morning

Chilly again last night, but I made it through anyway. Each day the good Lord give me, makes me happy. And today He gave me time for an errand.

Some of you know, how I like to construct and quilt quilts. Any size, any pattern will do. But today, I got caught with my=====down. No, not really, I ran out of white thread, so Wal Mart here I come. Today is Sr's meeting, but since it is the day for Election of Officers just think I will stay home. Anyway, at Wal Mart, I can get into more trouble..Did I hear someone say: "Leave your checkbook at home." Well that's no problem but aren't there (unmentionable) ways to get things from Wal Mart? And I don't mean stealing. Heaven forbid. What do you think of me?

I recently bought a hard cover recipe book from a re-sale store. Little did I know the first copyright was in 1938 by Consolidated Book Publishers, Inc., Chicago
, IL. It is a treasure. The following is just one of the recipes I have found. It brought back memories of my mother and her bread making. I always wondered where those potatoes she cooked occasionally went. Now I Know: Enjoy:

Potato Yeast
(Liquid, Railroad or Starter)

6 medium-sized potatoes 1/3 cup sugar
4 pints boiling water 3 tablespoons salt
1 cup flour 1 yeast cake softened in
1/2 teaspoon ginger 1 cup lukewarm water

Pare potatoes and cut in small pieces. Cook in the boiling water until well done. Mash the potatoes or force them through a colander. Mix sugar, salt, ginger and flour. Pour over the ingredients the hot, cooked, mashed potatoes with the water in which they were cooked. When lukewarm add the softened yeast. Keep at room temperature twenty-four hours.

Pour into sterilized crock or jar. Cover and store in a cool, dark place. Liquid yeast may be used for two weeks. It is not desirable to keep it longer. When making new liquid yeast, use one cup of the old liquid yeast or a compound yeast cake to start it.

This recipe reminds me of the Friendship Cake/Bread recipe we used to pass around. I left a batch of that on top of the refrigerator when the whole family went on a weekend trip. It was in a plastic mixing bowl. Got home. No batch, no bowl. The concoction had eaten right through the bottom of the bowl.

Whew---What a mess.

Later.

HAVE A GOOD DAY! y'ALL

My Daily ????? Thoughts

White Dove in my Garden.

Happy Birthday, Daughter.
She is 42 years old today. Oh my, how time flys. Seems just a short time ago that she was a tot wandering around looking for dandelions. She now is a Mom of 3 and very happy to be so. With God's Blessing's she will reach the same old age as her Mom is now. God willing, I'll be around many more years to celebrate with her.
LOVE YOU!
==========Sunshine is beautiful today. Get's real cool at night. Yes, we need a blanket. Soon I'll change from just a sheet & blanket to my electric blanket. Then I can cuddle up with a good book and keep warm. Turn the furnace a little lower because of the gigantic cost of gas fuel.
It has been an excellent year for AC. Even though I like my house real cool because of the humidity, that bill has been less than average.
My schedule for today hasn't changed much from last Monday. Right now I'm drinking my 1 cup of coffee of the day. Like my son says," I have a big cup." His is 24 oz. and mine is only 12. My coffee maker is a 2 cup. Sometimes, I use a bigger cut and drink the whole thing.
Well, after straightening the house a little (a tiny little) will get to my sewing. Had to oil my sewing machine yesterday. It was beginning to sound like a thrashing machine. So, rather than work on my major project have to do an alternate one until any oil spills are gone, then back to my major for this month.
Keep watching, you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Did you ever wonder where the days, weeks, months and years go?
Oh, I have. Just this week in fact, I realized that Saturday, today, is August 1, 2009.
Where did my time go? What have I accomplished?
Well, to name a few, since Christmas 2007, I have constructed and quilted (by hand) 2 king sized quilts and several crib size and single bed size. This past 2 weeks, I'm working on my third quilt, this time a queen size. It is so rewarding. My son says I am an artist.
You know what, I feel like one. And God is so good to me. I was 81 years old last April and am still in sound health. Thank you, Lord.!
I am so blessed, I'm looking forward to more and more years. About the only spiritual active now I can participate in is praying for others and for situations and attempt to attend services weekly.
Just to let you know, those little crazy quilts I make are donated to the Veteran's Hospital in my area. My self and 3/4 others have made and donated over 200 in the last 3 years.
